Grade 7 and 8 students from across the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) will participate in the fifth annual Intermediate Spoken Word Poetry Slam on May 2.

Students will present both group and individual original spoken word poems, and awards will be presented for group, individual and school results.

There are eight schools competing including defending champions Minesing Central Public School.

“The spoken word is a powerful way to include authentic student voice, and poetry slams are wonderful opportunities for our students to share their unique perspectives, experiences and original thoughts with others,” says Anita Simpson, Superintendent of Program and Innovation.

This event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Roy Edwards Room at the SCDSB Education Centre, located at 1170 Highway 26 in Midhurst.

The public and members of the media are welcome to attend.
