A proposed development at 875 Big Bay Point Rd. has residents concerned about tree removal.
Fandor Developments wants to build nine, detached residential building lots at the site which is surrounded by similar development.
"All of the lots will meet or exceed the minimum standards," planner Celeste Phillips said at a public meeting Monday.
"The property lot sizes are within the character of the neighbourhood."
Residents, however, argue that the property is too small for the development and the property has the only mature trees in the area.
“I cannot understand how, with all the (former Innisfil) land and new developments, there needs to be nine small homes on land which contains the only mature trees in the area,” Ashley Hillier wrote in a letter to the city.
“We look to protect not only the land but the trees, which we share a property line with,” she said.
Tana Ward spoke about her concern for the trees being cut and asked the planner if new trees will be planted.
"The large-canopy trees provide cover for our backyards," she said.
This properly is on the south side of Big Bay Point Road, east of Prince William Way and was obtained by the city when it annexed parts of Innisfil, is zoned agricultural and Fandor is asking the city to rezone it to residential single-detached dwelling third density.
The plan retains a row of trees along the property's property line, and the developer says homes will look similar to others.
Planning staff is expected to present recommendations to Council April 18.
