Construction continues at and around the intersection of Cundles Road East and Duckwork Street.

This will be a sign like no other in the city of Barrie.

Penady (Barrie) Ltd. has applied for an excemption to the city's sign bylaw, to allow a new 67-foot sign to be erected at Cundles Road East and Duckwork Street.

"People in Midhurst will see this sign," says Ward 3 councillor Doug Shipley. "It's a big, big sign and it will be like a beacon for the city. Drivers are actually going to see it as they are driving through gasoline alley in Oro."

If approved by Council, the sign will exceed sign by-law guidelines by about 38 feet.

The structure, which will be located at the south side of the Cundles Road East development near the Highway 400 southbound ramp,  will also need to be ok'd by the Ministry of Transportation due to the location near Highway 400.

Shipley represents the area and he says he was concerned about the impact such a large sign will have on neighbours.

According to a staff report, "the proposed placement of the sign on this property would not interfere with residential properties" because the nearest residential property  is located approximately 145 metres to the south.

Construction at the site has ramped up recently, as improvements continue to the roadways.
