Segment of Bayview Drive closed for three weeks (5 photos)

Bayview Drive is closed between Big Bay Point Road and Mollard Court in city's south end

Ongoing work to build a bridge over Highway 400, connecting Harvie Road and Big Bay Point Road, led to the closure of a portion of Bayview Drive in south-end Barrie today.

Starting Tuesday and for the next three weeks, Bayview Drive is closed for approximately 220 metres in the area north of Big Bay Point Road toward Mollard Court.

The closure will allow for the removal of the Barrie-Collingwood Railway (BRCY) tracks, as well as the installation of underground infrastructure, such as watermains, sanitary and storm sewers. The railway tracks will then be reinstated.

City officials says the overpass will lessen traffic congestion in the area, particularly around the Mapleview Drive and Essa Road interchanges.

The crossing is expected to open in the fall of 2020.
