The Simcoe County District School Board has turned to the Ontario Municipal Board to settle the dispute with Barrie over a new high school location.

Barrie rejected a plan last fall, stating it failed to conform to new design guidelines.

This is the latest on the list of upcoming OMB hearings involving Barrie, which has several open cases, including:

  • An appeal to the city’s annexed-lands growth management policies: a motion is to be presented May 30 at 10 a.m., with a pre-hearing starting at 10 a.m. May 31.
  • A neighbour’s appeal of Mason Homes’ plans for townhouses at 370 Big Bay Point Road has a prehearing June 15 and a hearing slate to start July 18. Barrie approved rezoning the site, which had been commercial for years, to residential. It’s across from a plaza that has a St. Louis Bar and Grill.
  • An appeal regarding Pinemount developments’ plans for 400 and 430 Ferndale Drive and 134 Hawthorne Crescent is scheduled for Sept. 28 at 10:30 a.m. The developer is proposing building a 90-unit, six-storey apartment building.
  • 681-685 Yonge Street: A developer appealed a lack of a city timely decision to rezone the residential lots to allow two commercial buildings on a corner near St. Peter’s Catholic High School. A five-day hearing is scheduled to start Oct. 17.

Hearings take place at City Hall.

In Oro-Medonte, the OMB will be hearing two applications associated with festivals and entertainment.

The OMB will be in Oro-Medonte next week, May 24, to begin hearing the appeal on the Burl’s Creek Event Grounds.

That hearing takes place at Oro-Medonte’s administration building, located at 148 Oro-Medonte Line South, at 10:30 a.m.

Also in Oro-Medonte, the OMB will hear a zoning bylaw amendment allowing special events at 754 Horseshoe Valley Rd. W. That hearing takes place Aug. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Oro-Medonte’s administration building.

In Springwater, several cases related to Midhurst-area developments remain before the OMB, including Carson Trail Estates and Midves on Conc. 3. Neither have hearing dates.

A pre-hearing, however, is scheduled for Sept. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Springwater’s municipal offices - an appeal concerning an aggregate operation proposed for 3568 Barrie Hill Rd.

Also, the County of Simcoe will be at an OMB hearing regarding its Official Plan, its 20-year guiding planning document, on June 20 at 11 a.m.

Pre-hearings date back to March, 2013 and a telephone pre-hearing conference was held May 12.

No location has been specified.

There are no hearings slated for Innisfil, and only one in Essa – on Sept. 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the Essa township municipal building. It pertains to the township’s Official Plan as it applies to Conc. 1, lot 20, north half.
