At Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s (RVH) Annual General Meeting (AGM), Michael O’Keefe chair, RVH Board of Directors, welcomed new board member Barrie resident Jim Gerhart.

The board also said goodbye to long-term board member Oro-Medonte resident Harry Hughes whose input and insight was greatly valued.

It was also announced, effective September, Dr. Emily Chan will take on the position of RVH Medical Staff president, replacing outgoing president Dr. Rob El-Maraghi who was thanked for sharing his time, vision and expertise. Dr. Dave Boushey has accepted the role of vice-president, RVH Medical Staff, also effective in the fall.

The board also approved the 2017-18 audited financial statements which makes this the eighth consecutive balanced budget for RVH. Given the ongoing pressures, growing patient volumes and rising costs of healthcare, this is a remarkable accomplishment.

RVH also celebrated its achievements, milestones and awards at the AGM with the release of its annual highlights - A Year in Review 2017- 2018. The document can be viewed on RVH’s website.

Once again, RVH had a lot to celebrate and the board remarked on the many incredible achievements, including:

  • Three significant openings – the Transitional Care Unit; the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Child and Youth Mental Health Program and the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Heart Program
  • RVH continued to enhance kidney care for dialysis patients throughout Barrie and Alliston improving access to care
  • Partnerships with organizations like the YMCA, SickKids and the Barrie Area Native Advisory Council to better serve patients and ensure their unique needs are being met both at RVH and in the community

Earlier in the month, the RVH Foundation Board of Directors, under the leadership of John Byles, celebrated the completion of the $25 million Hearts & Minds campaign which successfully came in at $25.2 million led by Dave McCullough, past chair of the RVH Foundation Board.

Lise McCourt remains as the RVH Auxiliary president for another year. Lise has volunteered at RVH since 2014, assisting with special projects including the Auxiliary bazaar and has held a director position on the Auxiliary board since 2015.
