South Simcoe Police are asking the public's help in locating an alleged serial romance fraudster.

Police say the man uses online dating sites to meet women, enters into relationships and then defrauds the women of money through various means.

According to police, the man often poses as a businessman from Italy and drives a flashy rental car he passes off as his own.

Detectives say he’s not licenced to drive, and even tried to sell the rental car to a victim’s son.

In the latest case, police say he drove a new top-of-the-line Fiat in order to support his "role."

South Simcoe investigators say a woman came forward after she became suspicious about her boyfriend.

She said the man she met online played on her sympathy, pretending he was ill and saying he needed money for medication.

“We believe there may be others victims. This man has been running this scam for several years, and he’s currently wanted by police in Toronto and Peel," said Detective Constable Ivan Coulter.

57-year old Enrico Cagnotti is wanted by South Simcoe Police on charges of Fraud Under $5,000 and Breach of Probation.

Police say he has a number of alias including Enrico Depaolis,  Juiseina Cagnotti, Guesppa Depaolis,  Rick Cagnotti, Eric Paolis, Rick Gambino, Franco Cesaretti, Enrico Paulozza, and Enrico Pirolo.

"This woman was brave enough to come forward.  It's embarrassing because the women are duped," Coulter said.

Anyone who has information on Cagnotti, or believes they may have been a victim is asked to call Detective Constable Coulter at 705-436-2141 or 905-775-3311, ext 1042 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
