R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) checks - Innisfil

Officers with South Simcoe Police R.I.D.E team were kept busy on Wednesday night.

Within one hour of setting up a R.I.D.E. check program in northern Innisfil, officers stopped 215 vehicles.

Three drivers were quickly arrested for drug possession and have a Criminal Court date in December. Marihuana was seized from each of these drivers.

A total of nine drivers were tested at the roadside, and of those, three drivers were handed driving suspensions for being in the warn range and lost the use of their licence and vehicles.

These drivers will now have to apply to get their drivers licences back from the Ministry of Transportation with costs.

South Simcoe Police stress to all drivers that officers will be out in full force during the holiday season. If you drink, don't drive.

Take a taxi, call a friend, or stay over. Just don't get behind the wheel of any vehicle.

Officers will also be on the look out for drivers under the influence or in the possession of narcotics. A canine unit will be used at R.I.D.E. checks to detect narcotics.
