The City of Barrie is making it easier and faster to get a residential building permit. APLI is the City’s new application tool where residents can apply for deck, shed, pool fence and sewage building permits online.

“We’re striving to make our permit process easier and faster and APLI is huge step towards making this happen,” said Andrea Bourrie, Director of Planning and Building Services. “In today’s busy world, you shouldn’t need to come to City Hall during business hours to apply for a deck permit or schedule an inspection. APLI allows residents to go through this process in the comfort of their own home, on their own schedule.”

With APLI, residents can submit all documents and payment online 24/7. They can also request inspections and receive status update emails at each stage in the process.

APLI is part of the City’s overall strategy to enhance services for residents through technology. Currently the platform is available for deck, shed, pool fence and sewage residential building permits. The remaining 18 permits will be available this fall. In the next few years APLI will expand to include even more permits, licences and inspection processes from planning, engineering and enforcement services.
