There's still time to register for Simcoe County's first online job fair, happening Thursday, Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The free virtual hiring event, sponsored by the County of Simcoe, Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board (SMWDB) and Employment Ontario service providers, is designed to connect employers to local job seekers.

Organizers say response has been "tremendous", with more than 1,700 registered job seekers and more than 60 employers offering hundreds of local employment opportunities.

"Our strong registration numbers indicate that we've tapped into a great value-added service to our businesses and residents," said Simcoe County Warden Gerry Marshall.

"It's clear that Simcoe County offers tremendous opportunity and we're proudly taking a more active role in creating jobs and connecting our employers with the skilled labour they need to compete in a global economy."

The Virtual Job Fair site offers a very realistic 3-D environment, making it easy for businesses hoping to hire to network with local job seekers to network and interact in real time.

Employers and job seekers receive instructions before the event on the easy-to-use software, and will also receive technical support on the day of the event.
