A total of 50,554 ballots cast by voters in Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte on October 19, will be recounted next week.

The judicial recount was ordered in a Barrie court today, after a request from federal Liberal election candidate Brian Tamblyn.

It will begin on Wednesday morning and is expected to be completed by Friday.

Tamblyn finished second to Conservative Alex Nuttall by 108 votes.

"I'm looking forward to a clear and definitive recount, and am pleased that it has been scheduled this quickly after the election," Tamblyn said.

The recount is a formal judicial process that will take place in a court room with Justice Mark Edwards overseeing and legal counsel are present.

An automatic recount is ordered by Elections Canada if the vote spread is small enough - 50 in his case. However, any eligible vote can request a recount and then must convince a judge it is necessary.
