Environment Canada says it has been a record breaking Christmas Eve in Barrie for warm temperatures.

According to Meteorologist Peter Kimbell, Barrie hit a record high of 14.2 today.

Barrie's previous record was 9.5 set in 1982.

"In reality, the temperature kept creeping up until early this morning and then started dropping once the cold front passed," Kimbell said. "But that still counts as the daily highs for yesterday and today, as the "dividing line" between days is 06 GMT or 1 AM EST."

Wednesday was also a record breaking Dec. 23 for Barrie.

Environment Canada says Barrie hit a high of 13.1.

The previous record was 11.7 set in 1957.
