RBC workers trade big cheque for hammers

Royal Bank donates $10,000 to Habitat Build

Royal Bank employees in Barrie donned hard hats instead of their usual business attire Monday to help Habitat for Humanity Huronia at its Centre St. build.

But before the hammering started, RBC presented Habitat with a big cheque for $10,000.

"We love to do this kind of stuff. It's a day out of the bank. Hopefully we're doing some good work for someone that's going to have a home in this community. It's our privilege to be here and have a little bit of fun," said RBC's Frank Berdan.

16 people from branches across Barrie were at the Adopt-A-Day, a unique team-building experience that allows employees to work together on a project and enables the company to invest in the community.

All proceeds directly fund the build.

"Materials for a project like this is in the hundreds of thousands so $10,000 will enable us to the the entire second floor. It's a big part of what we're accumulating these funds to do. It also ensures that our funds are being used very effectively," said Habitiat Huronia CEO Ken Kirk.

"We're currently in the midst of trying to acquire another four lots so obviously anytime we can get out community to donate funds it means we can put more into our war chest to get more land."
