Punches fly, phone smashes in dispute over bicycle

Police were called to the Salvation Army located at 16 Bayfleld Street, in the City of Barrie, after a dispute occurred over a bicycle.

On Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 8:30 p.m. police attended to speak to a male victim who reported he exited the Salvation Army and located his bicycle which had been stolen the first week of June.

He took the bike but was immediately confronted by a second male who began punching he victim. During the scuffle, the accused grabbed the victims phone smashing it against the roadway.

The accused took the bike back and the victim retreated to the Salvation Army to call police.

Police attended and spoke to the victim and witnesses. A short time later the suspect was located and placed under arrest. 

The bicycle was returned to its rightful owner. The accused was also bound by two outstanding probation orders which resulted in additional charges.

A 41-year-old Barrie male has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Mischief
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Fail to comply with probation x 2

The male was held at the Barrie Police Service for a bail hearing Friday morning.
