Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) supporters Leo and Joanne Procee have once again shown their commitment to bringing cancer care closer to home with a $100,000 pledge to RVH’s Hearts and Minds campaign.

Their generous pledge will be directed to purchasing equipment for the cancer centre. This is in fact the Procee’s third pledge to the health centre’s latest fundraising campaign with two previous gifts of $25,000 each.

“With growing patient volumes and rising rates of cancer, support like the Procee’s is so important to ensure RVH can continue to deliver high-quality, safe cancer care,” says David McCullough, chair, RVH Foundation. “Last year alone, there were more than 90,000 visits to the cancer centre clinic and donor support remains a key piece of the health care puzzle.”

The Procee family, who have owned and operated Procee Construction Ltd. since 1993, have been integral to the growth of RVH. Their support of the I Believe campaign helped to build the cancer centre in RVH’s expansion project which opened in 2012.

A room in the cancer centre already bears the Procee name and this latest gift will also be honoured with another plaque.

The Procee’s focus on supporting the cancer centre is a very personal choice as Leo is a patient under the care of oncologist Dr. Bryn Pressnail.

“My family and I support RVH and specifically the cancer centre because we understand, first-hand, the impact cancer can have on people’s lives,” says Leo Procee. “I’m at the point in my life when it’s time for me to stop working as much and give back to the community that I have called home for 57 years. Supporting RVH is simply the right thing for us to do so we can ensure our families and future generations can get cancer care close to home if they need it.”

Over the years, the Procee’s have committed more than $210,000 to RVH.
