A Barrie man charged with the murders of an elderly, disabled man and his son is in court for a preliminary hearing.

Robert Twiss, 46, is charged with two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Alan Mallinson, 73, and his son Matthew, 39.

Barrie Police discovered the bodies of both men in their Eden Drive home Jan. 26, 2016 after the registered owner of a pickup truck allegedly involved in an OPP chase was traced to the home.

The victims may have been dead for up to five days, according to police.

Police said Twiss had been living with the Mallinsons. Autopsies showed both men had been stabbed to death.

Twiss is also charged with causing an indignity to a human body and flight from police.

Details of the preliminary hearing are covered by a publication ban.

It is scheduled for 3 weeks but spans a four-month period.

Once the hearing is complete, the judge will decide if the evidence merits taking the case to trial.
