NEWS RELEASE

ROYAL VICTORIA REGIONAL HEALTH CENTRE

*************************
On Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) is doing a power shutdown in the new part of its building for approximately six to eight hours.

The shutdown is necessary to install new equipment for the health centre’s catheterization lab in the under-construction Advanced Cardiac Care Centre. The health centre’s power will be fully functional again in the early morning of Sept. 27.

RVH has very well developed emergency procedures and protocols established and key stakeholders including staff, physicians, patients and families as well as healthcare partners have been notified of this outage.

While not all electrical services will be affected, there are a number that will be including some lighting and ventilation, including bathroom lighting, the patient bedside entertainment system and elevators in the new part of the building only.

Every effort is being made to ensure there is no impact to patient care as RVH is bringing in additional staff to support our teams during the shutdown.

If you are visiting a patient on one of the following units: Respiratory, Cancer Palliative, Cardiac Care Unit, Cardiac Renal you may wish to schedule your visit prior to 9 p.m. or until the next day as the elevators will be out of service. If you still wish to visit, greeters will be at the Atrium entrance to guide you.

If in the event of an emergency such as threatening storm or weather, high volumes of patients, RVH and the electricians working on site do have the capability to bring power back on line in a timely fashion.

If for some reason the shutdown needs to be cancelled, it will proceed the next night, Sept. 27 into the morning of Sept. 28.
