Police say Cabela's knife theft suspect returned to the scene of the crime

So they arrested him. Original reports said the culprit cut himself

Sept. 16 update:

On Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016 just after 10:30 a.m. police attended Cabela's located at 50 Concert Way, in the City of Barrie, after receiving reports of a male inside the store matching the description of a suspect that had stolen hunting knives, on Monday, Aug. 8, 2016.

Upon arrival, police identified and arrested the male. The 49-year-old Barrie man has been charged with theft under $5,000 and will appear in a Barrie court in October.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a male suspect who is wanted for theft from Cabela’s located at 50 Concert Way, in the City of Barrie.

On Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, just before 12 p.m., video surveillance captured the male selecting various hunting knives and placing them into a shopping basket.

On the way to the fitting room the male is observed selecting a woman’s jacket, and nine minutes later is seen exiting the fitting room.

Upon leaving the store he discards the shopping basket containing the empty packages and makes no attempt to pay for the merchandise.

It is believed the male sustained a cut to his right hand while removing the knives from the packaging.  The woman’s jacket was left behind and found to be soiled with blood.

The investigation is ongoing.

The suspect is described as:

  • Male, white
  • Medium build, approx. 5’9”, 250lbs.
  • Brown hair , goatee and glasses
  • Wearing a blue shirt, dark jeans, running shoes and carrying a dark satchel.
