COOKS BAY-BRADFORD - On Sunday August 14, 2016 at 3:30 pm marine officers were called to assist a family of six including a toddler on board of a pontoon boat that had lost power East of Cooks Bay and was drifting towards a rocky shoal.

Officers were able to locate the vessel with the assistance of the vessel's operator using GPS coordinates. The pontoon boat was located and pulled safely away from the rocks and to a marina.

All on board were safe and no one was injured.

Officers credit the use of a cell phone to stay in touch with the vessel and remind all boaters to be prepared. Know where you are and use a GPS.

Have all your safety equipment aboard, wear your PFD at all times, and keep your cell phone charged and ready in case you need assistance.
