A South Simcoe Police officer attended to a call on Holland Street at 2 a.m. this morning for a driver who maybe in distress.

When the officer arrived he observed a male laying back in his seat and unresponsive to the officer banging on the window.

The officer had fire attend to assist with breaking the window as the vehicle doors were locked.

Once the window was broken the male went to turn on his vehicle and attempted to drive away.

The officer could detect a strong odour of alcohol coming from the vehicle.

The officer intervened and tried to turn the vehicle off.

The driver, a 22-year-old Innisfil resident became combative with the officer.

Police and fire were able to over power the male and took him into custody.

The male was arrested for Impaired Care and Control, Resist Arrest, and Assault Police.

The male was released with conditions and has a court date in December.

The officer and fireman were not seriously hurt in the altercation.
