Police investigating cell phone theft report

Police say the victim left her phone on the counter briefly. Surveillance footage shows someone picking it up

The Barrie Police is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a male suspect following a theft of a cell phone at Tim Hortons, located at 1 Dunlop Street, in the City of Barrie on Friday, July 22, 2016.

Police received a report of a cell phone that had been stolen after the victim had mistakenly left it on the countertop at Tim Hortons.

Video surveillance captured two males in line behind the victim and observed the one male taking the cell phone from the counter and making no attempt to return it to the owner.

The victim returned to the store within five minutes to retrieve her cell phone, although the two males had already left the area.

The suspect is described as;

Suspect # 1

  • Male, white
  • Medium build
  • Brown hair – short
  • Carrying a long board
  • Wearing a black “Sons of Anarchy” t-shirt with a white skull logo on the front, dark shorts with vertical stripes and dark shoes
