Alex Nuttall (MP for Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte) will be hosting a soccer tournament for his charity, Pie Education, co-founded by Craig Russell (Pie Woodfired Pizza Joint) this coming weekend (July 8, 9, and 10).

Providing Instruments for Excellence (PIE) in Education, is a charity initiative which has been providing children living in government-subsidized housing across Simcoe County with backpacks full of school supplies for back-to-school.

This is the first annual "Scholars Through Soccer" 18+ tournament being held to raise funds that will be used towards purchasing supplies needed for the initiative.

Some of the proceeds are also going to the Barrie Soccer Club to sponsor the under 10 years, female leagues this season.

A number of local businesses are sponsoring participating teams, with many employees participating in the games.

On Friday, July 8 between (5-9 p.m.) players will meet at Kenzington Burger Bar (40 Dunlop St, Barrie) to pick up their player kits.

Teams will play three games each on Saturday, July 9, at the Barrie Sports Complex (21 Nursey Rd., Minesing), one game each on Sunday, July 10, and (if one of the top teams), will compete in the final game at Barrie Soccer Club (7 Currie Dr., Midhurst).

MPP, Patrick Brown will be stopping by on Sunday morning to toss the coin for the opening game at 9 a.m.

This tournament will consist of teams of players put together by four local businesses, competing for title of "Scholars Through Soccer" champions and the coveted "Scholars Through Soccer Cup".

All games will be played at the Barrie Sports Complex, with the final game on Sunday being held at the Barrie Soccer Club.

Players and their families are invited to celebrate the winning team and a fun-filled weekend at Pie Woodfired Pizza Joint (11 Victoria St., Barrie).

This celebration will coincide with the opportunity to watch the UEFA European Finals at 3 p.m.

All are welcome to join!
