A team of 13 dedicated volunteer committee members met this week to begin preparations for the area’s 21st Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure event scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 6 at Heritage Park, Barrie, at 8 a.m.

More than 1,000 participants will gather to raise over $200,000 in support of essential breast cancer initiatives, including access to free wigs and transportation to and from appointments.

“Every day, more than 70 Canadians will hear the words ‘you have breast cancer’,” said Shelley Irwin, CIBC Run for the Cure volunteer co-chair. “Once again, we have a strong committee, and together, we look forward to putting on another great event and helping generous community donors to raise much needed funds to help diagnose, treat and support those diagnosed with breast cancer.”

The CIBC Run for the Cure is a 1 km or 5 km run or walk. Each year, over 80,000 participants take part in close to 60 events across the country, making the CIBC Run for the Cure the largest single-day, volunteer-led event in Canada.

About Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure

Since 1992, the Canadian Cancer Society and former Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation proudly aligned with CIBC, a bank that embodies a culture of care and strives to have a positive impact on communities across the country. This year, the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure is taking place on October 6, 2019, in 57 communities across Canada. The event unites a collective of Canadians who are a force-for-life in the face of breast cancer. With the support of that collective, CCS funds the best breast cancer research, provides the largest cancer support system in the country and advocates on behalf of all Canadians for important social change.
