BarrieToday reached out to the eight candidates in the Ward 3 byelection and asked them why they thought they were best-suited to fill the vacant seat on city council. Six of the eight candidates responded. We are publishing their responses in their own words. Voting in the byelection ends Feb. 24. For more information on how to vote, click here

I have lived in Barrie’s Ward 3 for 28 years. Barrie is a beautiful city that I love, and I want to work to help keep it that way. I have been an auxiliary police officer with the Barrie Police Service, helped organize the very first Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser for Youth Haven and volunteered for the Simcoe Muskoka United Way teaching leadership workshops to local non-profit organizations.

I have over 30 years of experience in management, teaching, strategic planning and leadership. I have successfully launched two small business ventures; I can manage budgets, work collaboratively and see the big picture and how all the pieces fit together.

I understand the concerns of people in this community (safe streets, better roads, climate action, affordable housing to name a few). I want to have a seat at the table, to be your voice and work as a team with other members of council and city staff to ensure we continue to be strong and healthy as we face the challenges ahead.

Healthy communities require good economic policies and well-maintained infrastructures. By paying attention to and taking care of the local needs in our Ward 3, we will also be helping the rest of our city.

If elected it is my goal to listen actively and respond to your concerns and ideas, to represent our Ward 3 and the city transparently, collaboratively and effectively. I will do that by taking action with integrity and with compassion. Ensuring we maintain our roads, look for ways to save taxpayers money, caring for all of our citizens, whether they be marginalized, seniors or our youth.

I believe with my experience I can help Barrie be a leader in sustainable growth, climate action, affordable housing and high paying local jobs.
