Oro-Medonte Township Mayor Harry Hughes was invited to meet with Premier Doug Ford on Monday afternoon.

The township confirmed Hughes and CAO Robin Dunn met with the premier at Queen's Park in Toronto.

The meetings allowed Ford and the invited mayors to discuss shared priorities, such as improving transportation infrastructure, increasing the supply of housing to bring down costs, and "making sure that municipalities are open for business," according to a news release issued by the province Monday afternoon.

Other Ontario mayors who were scheduled to meet with Ford today were Ed Holder (London), Cam Guthrie (Guelph), Drew Dilkens (Windsor), Jim Watson (Ottawa), Bonnie Crombie (Mississauga) and Andy Letham (Kawartha Lakes).

"Ontario has some fantastic mayors, and we have some great working relationships," Ford said in a release. "Today, we strengthened those relationships. We're going to work together to get things done.

"We're going to build transit and infrastructure," the premier added. "We're going to make sure everyone can afford a place to call home. And we're going to show the world that Ontario is open for business."

During one-on-one meetings with each mayor, Ford discussed upcoming plans for the private retail sale of cannabis and restated his commitment to public health, public safety and protecting Ontario's youth, according to the news release. He also discussed ways to deliver better services to the people of this province and get more money back in the taxpayer's pocket.

The township said Hughes would be available for media interviews Tuesday, so check back tomorrow for the story.
