COOKSTOWN – The Ontario SPCA and South Simcoe Police will be teaming this Saturday at the Tanger Outlet Mall in Cookstown for one final public outreach event to raise awareness about the program Operation V.A.L.U.E. – Vulnerable Animals Left Unattended Everyday.
“The calls keep coming in, so clearly some pet owners are not getting the message about the dangers of leaving pets unattended in vehicles,” says Inspector says Inspector Brad Dewar, Investigations and Communications Officer, Ontario SPCA. “We will continue to keep hitting home the message about #NoHotPets until this becomes common sense.”
At the first event of the season on July 23, officers in attendance handed out brochures, talked to the public – and responded to a call about a dog left in a vehicle in Barrie. To date, the Ontario SPCA has received over 700 calls this year about animals left unattended in vehicles.
From 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, the Ontario SPCA, South Simcoe Police and security personnel from the Tanger Outlet Mall will be on site at the mall to educate the public about Operation V.A.L.U.E.
Operation V.A.L.U.E. is a crime prevention initiative designed to address areas of concern, like animals left unattended in vehicles, abandonment, what is considered appropriate shelter and safety while travelling with an animal.
Operation V.A.L.U.E began in 2012 in the York/GTA area and has since moved towards a provincial initiative, with events planned throughout the province.
Campaigns that work under the V.A.L.U.E program are; No Hot Pets, Ideal Dog House; Winter Pet Safety, and Emergency Preparedness.
