Traffic on the waterways this past weekend was light compared to previous long weekends. Operation Dry proved that boaters are complying when on the water.
There were no alcohol related incidents or charges laid.
The long weekend was a perfect time to bring awareness and education to boaters about the risks of drinking and driving.
Together, the Barrie Police Marine Unit and OPP patrolled the waterways and 56 vessels were checked, and 21 boaters were cautioned and educated when it came to minor safety equipment infractions.
Police are reminding boaters that being well-informed and highly-focused on safe boating practices and laws are sure-fire ways to enjoy a tragedy-free boating season.
