Ontario reports 3,436 new COVID cases Monday

Today's report also includes 3,623 recoveries, 16 deaths, and 126 new hospitalizations

Public Health Ontario has reported 3,436 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 3). 

Today's report includes 3,623 recoveries and 16 new deaths.

Today's deaths include two people between 40 and 59 years old, seven people between 60 and 79 years old, and seven people over 79 years old.

Since yesterday, the province has reported 126 new hospitalizations and 17 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.

The May 3 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 36,997 active cases, which is down from 37,200 yesterday. 
  • 1,925 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,961 reported yesterday. 
  • There are 889 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 895 yesterday) and 611 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 615 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 33,179 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 9.7 per cent positivity rate. 
  • Another 15,119 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14.2 million tests have been completed.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 985 are from Toronto, 714 cases are from Peel, 351 are from York Region, and 101 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
  • Today's cases include 684 individuals aged 19 and under, 1,351 people between 20 and 39 years old, 977 people between 40 and 59 years old, 360 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 61 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 53,880 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on May 2.
  • As of 6 p.m. on May 2, the province reported 5,378,249 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
  • In total, 375,905 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 473,901 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 428,786 recoveries and 8,118 deaths, of which 3,919 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,188.2 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 171 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 12.5 per cent from last week (April 17 to April 23).
