Public Health Ontario has reported 2,632 new cases of COVID-19 today.
The province is also reporting 46 deaths today, including 33 people who were residents at long-term care homes.
The Jan. 21 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 2,990 new recoveries
- 26,063 active cases, which is down from 26,467 yesterday
- 1,533 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,598 reported yesterday.
- There are 388 COVID patients in intensive care units (down from 395 yesterday) and 293 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 296 yesterday).
- The province reported 70,256 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 4.3 per cent positivity rate.
- There is a backlog of 52,871 tests. To date, 9,124,841 tests have been completed.
- Of the 2,632 cases reported today, 897 are from Toronto, 412 are from Peel, 245 are from York Region, 162 in Ottawa, and 118 in Waterloo.
- There are 251 active outbreaks at long-term care homes.
- Of the cases reported today there are 314 people under 19 years old, 1,004 people between 20 and 39 years old, 782 people between 40 and 59 years old, 388 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 144 people over the age of 80.
Vaccine update for Jan. 21:
- There were 15,899 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on Jan. 20, up from 13,784 on Jan. 19.
- As of 8 p.m. on Jan. 20, the province reports 253,817 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- There are 40,225 total vaccinations completed (both doses). The vaccines approved for use require two doses a few weeks apart.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 247,564 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 215,887 recoveries and 5,614 deaths, of which 3,307 were individuals living in long-term care homes.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 1,665.5 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 47 new cases of COVID-19 in the region.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 4,866 cases of COVID-19 with 3,548 of those cases recovered and 92 cases ending in death. There are 1,197 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, with the majority of those in Simcoe County.
There are at least 40 people from Simcoe County hospitalized.
There have been 14,185 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine administered in Simcoe Muskoka to health care workers in local hospitals, long-term care and retirement homes, as well as to all eligible long-term care home residents.
As of today, 710 individuals from the region have received both doses of the vaccine.
In Simcoe-Muskoka the weekly incidence rate was 75.1 cases per 100,000 people for the week of Jan. 10 to Jan. 16, which is a decrease of 11 per cent compared to the week of Jan. 4 to Jan. 10 when the rate was 84.4 cases per 100,000 people.
