One woman dead, another seriously injured after pedestrian-plow collision

Crash involving pedestrians and snow plow happened around 12:30 a.m., Friday, at Mapleview and Veterans; Bradford woman died at scene

Two Bradford women were struck by a plow early this morning in Barrie's south end, leaving one dead and the other with serious injuries.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m., Friday morning, the two women were struck by a privately operated farm-type tractor that was heading west on Mapleview Drive and turning south onto Veterans Drive.

A 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the second woman, also 26, was taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre with serious injuries.

The 22-year-old driver of the plow, which was equipped with a snow-removal blade, was taken to hospital suffering from shock.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon tells BarrieToday that investigators will be looking at surveillance footage, but are also still hoping for help from the public.

“It is very unfortunate and next of kin have been notified,” said Leon.

“We do know that a business in the area has video footage and we are waiting to obtain that, but we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or may have dash-cam footage to contact us to assist in the investigation," he said.
