One person taken to hospital after house fire in Angus

OPP and Office of the Fire Marshal assisting in the investigation on Margaret Street to determine the cause

Essa Township firefighters were called out to a house fire on Margaret Street in Angus early Saturday morning. 

The lone occupant, an adult male, escaped and was transported to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie with non-life-threatening injuries by Simcoe County paramedics.

Fire crews from Stations 1 and 2 responded to the scene at around 5:30 a.m.

"Upon arrival, first-responders observed a home engulfed in flames," says Nottawasaga OPP Const. Scott Stajcer. "Essa Fire Department extinguished the fire."

Essa Fire is working with Ontario Provincial Police and the Office of the Fire Marshal to determine the cause.

Margaret Street was closed between Alma and Osborn streets for the fire investigation.

The road closure was expected to be in place for several hours.

Officers also remain at the scene to secure the area while the investigation continues.
