Man revived and in hospital following morning fire on Mowat Crescent

Fire contained to the basement of the multi-unit residential home and tenants in the upper level were able to escape the building

Emergency crews responded to a basement fire in west-end Barrie this morning to find one man without vital signs.

Deputy Chief Carrie Clark told BarrieToday that crews arrived at 19 Mowat Cres., near Leacock Drive and Browning Trail, just before 8:30 a.m., Wednesday. First-responders were able to revive the victim.

“When crews got there, the man was VSA (vital signs absent), but they were able to return a pulse and he was transported to RVH (Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre),” Clark said. “I am not aware of his current (condition) at the hospital.”

The fire was contained to the basement of the multi-unit residential home and tenants in the upper level were able to get out of the structure.

Inspectors from Barrie Fire and Emergency Services, as well as the province's Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM), remain on scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
