Old YMCA being razed to make room for new apartments (8 photos)

Three houses on Grove Street property levelled along with outbuilding and former child-care facility; Attention will soon turn to main building

Demolition crews have been busy this past week dismantling the Barrie YMCA's former facility on Grove Street West overlooking Highway 400 as the local organization continues to develop plans for a new facility in the city.

Three houses on the property have been levelled along with an outbuilding and the former child-care facility.

Attention will soon focus on the main and newer portions of the facility.

Meanwhile, crews have been separating the debris for recycling, including all metals, Styrofoam and even the bricks.

It's all being done to make room for the proposed development of 924 residential units in a series of buildings.
