NEWS RELEASE

SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE

*************************
On Thursday, December 3, 2015, the South Simcoe Police Festive R.I.D.E. team set up at 4 locations in Innisfil.

At 6 p.m., a vehicle was stopped and the officer noted alcohol on the breath of the driver.

As a result of testing, a 40-year-old woman from Innisfil was charged with Drive Over 80mgs.

Her car was impounded for 7 days, and her licence suspended for 90 days.

She will appear in court later this month.

Less than 15 minutes later, another car was stopped and the driver admitted to drinking alcohol earlier.

As a result of testing, a 51-year-old Innisfil man was charged with Drive Over 80 mgs.

His vehicle was impounded for 7 days, and his licence suspended for 90 days.

He too will be in court later this month.

Just after 11 p.m., at a different location, a third driver was stopped.

She too had the odour of alcohol on her breath, and was tested at the roadside.

As a result, a 53-year-old woman from Innisfil is facing a charge of Drive Over 80 mgs.

She will attend the same court date as the others.

Her vehicle was impounded and her licence suspended for 90 days.

Two other drivers recorded WARN on roadside tests during the evening.

Their licences were suspended for three days.

A young driver's licence was also suspended for 24 hours, after they registered a reading other than zero on a roadside test.

In total, the R.I.D.E. officers stopped 260 vehicles, conducted 20 tests, suspended two drivers for three days, one for 24 hours, and laid criminal charges against 3 other drivers.

These statistics remind us that there are still an alarming number of people who get behind the wheel after drinking.

With the number of alternatives available, impaired driving is never necessary.

You can use a designated driver, take a cab, walk, stay over or just choose not to drive.

The festive R.I.D.E. program continues until January.
