Barrie firefighters were called around 8 p.m., Sunday, to a house fire on Bronte Crescent near Lampman Lane in the Letitia Heights neighbourhood.

Deputy chief of operations Ed Davis told BarrieToday the first truck on the scene reported nothing visible upon arrival, but entered the house to see find an active fire.

“They went in the front door and saw a fire in the kitchen that appeared to be caused by a crock pot, positioned on the stove top with a bag placed next to it,” Davis said Monday. “Some of the remnants of that fire spilled onto the floor, so there was some damage there as well.”

Davis said there was some damage to the nearby microwave and cupboards, but that there was nothing serious damage to the home.

“There was a tenant in the basement who made it out with their dog and the landlords were not home at the time, so there were no injuries,” he said.

With no structural damage and testing of the air quality proving to be OK, no one was displaced from the home.

The damage estimate was unknown.
