NEWS RELEASE

BARRIE POLICE SERVICE

*************************
Today the Barrie Police Service kicked off the Provincial Crime Prevention Week which runs from November 1 to 7, 2015.

The week-long promotion of crime prevention is supported by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, and all police services across Ontario.

The year's theme is: Working together to improve community safety and well-being — a shared commitment in Ontario.

Crime Prevention and Community Policing is what we do.

We believe that Ontario communities are among the safest in the world.

That’s because police partner with community leaders, young people, businesses, and government to prevent crime from occurring.

The Barrie Police have a number of community safety programs including; Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, Lock It or Lose It, Neighbourhood Watch and C.O.P. (Citizens on Patrol).

Throughout the week Barrie Police will post crime-prevention strategies on social media through Facebook and Twitter.

On Sunday November 1, our @BarriePolice Twitter Contest begins.

Our twitter followers will have a chance to win an iPad Mini! Use the #BPSCrimePrevention15 and retweet our crime prevention tips of the day, at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The contest closes on Friday, November 6, at 3 p.m. and we will announce the winner on Facebook, Twitter and our website!

Beginning Monday, November 2, a series of events will be happening throughout the city promoting crime prevention, safety and well-being.

For more information about Crime Prevention Week contact Constable Schefter at 705-725-7025, extension #2925.
