Mayor Jeff Lehman and Co-Founder and Owner of MVT Alex Lodde greeted staff and invited guests at the official opening of Barrie’s Transit Garage, located at 133 Welham Road.
The event showcased the new facility and a new Barrie Transit bus, which was added to the fleet on October 29, 2015.
The MVT Canadian Bus Inc. deal was a private-public partnership to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the transit service, which includes construction of a storage and service garage.
The new garage, which was once an old factory has been repurposed into a state-of-the-art facility where Barrie’s transit fleet can be cleaned, maintained and repaired.
The facility began full operations on September 8, 2015.
Barrie received $5.8 Million from the Federal government P3 grant to build the Transit Garage.
It was the first Transit P3 contract to be awarded in Canada.
MVT Canadian Bus Inc. took over as the City of Barrie’s transit provider on July 1, 2015.
The 20-year agreement includes service level standards, with targets the provider must meet or it will face penalties.
Many of the indicators are related to customer service, including the level of customer satisfaction, measured through customer complaints and resolutions, and service reliability, measured by the provider’s ability to maintain on-time service.
