New South Simcoe Police Chief Andrew Fletcher takes the reigns

Change of command ceremony at Innisfil Town Hall

Andrew Fletcher was sworn in as the new Chief for South Simcoe Police during a formal change of command ceremony Tuesday held at a packed Innisfil Town Hall.

"It is truly an incredible privilege and honour to be granted the opportunity to lead the women and men of the South Simcoe Police Service," said Fletcher in a speech to the crowd.

Police leaders in attendance included Chief Jeff McGuire from Niagara Regional Police, Chief Eric Jolliffe from York Regional Police, OPP Commissioner Vince Hawkes and Barrie's Chief Kimberley Greenwood.

Officers in the audience represented police services from across southern Ontario including Guelph, Waterloo and Halton Regional Police where Fletcher spent 31 years, his last eight as Deputy Chief, before joining South Simcoe Police as Deputy in 2015.

County of Simcoe Paramedics were also represented along with Mayors, police board members and a contingent of Fletcher's family members.

They included his two children, his father and his father's wife, Fletcher's sister and brother-in-law, nieces and his 'incredible wife Jacquei' who he called 'my best friend' and thanked for all her love and support.

Chief Rick Beazley, who is retiring after 42 years in policing, passed the ceremonial sword to Fletcher who swore the oath of office prior to taking the reigns of the police service.

The outgoing Chief received high praise from speakers and a standing ovation following his remarks as did Fletcher.

Outside the town hall, the South Simcoe Police new ceremonial mounted unit stood proudly to greet arriving guests.
