City council meets tonight and some big presentations are on tap from the city's service partners who will deliver budget requests for 2018.  Here are some highlights on the agenda:

  • The Barrie Police Services Board's budget request is for just over $51.8 million. The police budget is part of the City’s 2018 Business Plan, which council will discuss and approve later this month.
  • The County of Simcoe's 2018 budget request is for $20.55 million. The County provides long-term care and seniors services to the City, along with land ambulance (paramedic) services, Ontario Works, children and community services, and social housing.
  • The Barrie Public Library Board will present a $8.34 million budget request to councillors.
  • City council will consider final approval to endorse, in principle, phased renovations of each floor at Barrie City Hall from 2019–2020, while staff use existing city space, then build an addition to the north face of the existing tower, from 2021–2024, all subject to future capital funding approvals.
  • City council will consider final approval to a motion asking staff to pursue interest in Barrie Molson Centre's naming rights, and report back. Molson has BMC’s naming rights until Dec. 31, 2018, but has declined the opportunity to continue this arrangement.
  • City Council will consider final approval to reduce election sign display time in Barrie to 30 days from 45 days before election day.
