After delays of more than a year, the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) and the City of Barrie are "on the same page" and that means a new south end high school could open in September, 2019.
"The site plan is going ahead and the progress has been really good with city staff," said John Dance, superintendent of facilities at the SCDSB.
"I expect it will go to tender in the next couple of months."
If the project stays on track, Dance said the successful tender will be chosen this winter and construction could begin early next year.
"We are ready."
Last June city council reversed a decision and approved the board's site plan for the school to be built at Mapleview Drive and Prince William Way.
The Ministry of Education has approved $27.5 million for the school - a 135,625-sq.-ft., split-level building to house about 1,000 students.
Also included in the plan are two sports fields, a rubber running track, parking and enough room for 15 portable classrooms.
