Need firewood? Barrie has 300 tons for sale

You can also buy 2,625 tons of compost

The City of Barrie is selling off surplus yard waste compost and firewood at the landfill.

Approximately 300 tons of firewood consisting of tree trunks and limbs greater than 4 inches in diameter is separated and available.

It's a mixture of hard and soft wood which would be suitable for firewood, according to a city release.

City spokesperson Scott Lamantia tells BarrieToday that most of the firewood was downed tree limbs from the March ice storm.

The city also has about 2,625 tons of compost for sale.

City compost meets the Ontario Compost Quality Standards and Canadian Council of the Minister of the Environment (CCME) at a Category AA.

Compost is screened through a ½ drum and final sample results are available upon request.

The city encourages anyone interested in purchasing either item to submit a bid by Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. by printing and completing the bid form as per the instructions on the form.

Bid forms can also be picked up at the landfill site, 272 Ferndale Drive North.

The bid sheets can be submitted in person at the landfill or emailed torethinkwaste@barrie.ca

The successful bidder of each item must remove all of the material in its entirety, within two weeks of being notified.

The compost and firewood are currently being stored at Barrie Landfill Site located at 272 Ferndale Drive North.

Bidders will be provided access to view the compost and firewood tomorrow at 10 a.m.
