Whether you’re a kid looking for a fun time with treats, or an adult wanting a bit of a scare; BarrieToday has you covered.

Since September 19, Chappell Farms has been putting on their annual Pumpkin Festival and Haunted Adventure. The popular event goes right to October 31 and includes a corn maze, wagon rides, a hunted tent and the opportunity to pick your own pumpkin.

Brad Townsend and his wife Ashley attended this year like they do every year and Brad believes it’s a must-do on the Barrie events calendar.

“It’s great for the whole family,” said Townsend. “Our two girls Adelaide (4) and Logan (19 months) have such a fun time and they really enjoy picking out their own pumpkin right out of the pumpkin patch and of course riding the wagon.”

The Pumpkin Festival and Haunted Adventure continues until Halloween and runs every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $6 per person weekdays and $11 per person on weekends and holidays. Children two and under are free.

Oct. 29 is Mady Theatre Movie day as the downtown site will host three movies in the spirit of Halloween. The first two will encourage family time as an 11 a.m. showing of Hotel Transylvania and a 2 p.m. screening of Corpse Bride will delight the cartoon fans of the city. The cost to get in is $5 each show and should allow parents and kids to enjoy some time together before the adults take over the block at 8 p.m. For the kids shows, there is a promo code deal when you buy tickets that is two for $5. The code word is HALLOWEEN. The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a hugely popular cult-classic film from 1975, hits the screen later that night. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show is $20 with a 19+ age requirement. People familiar with the film can dress up and bring some items known to be a part of the show.

Another theatre-themed event is the very cool Theatre By The Bay Garage Sale. Designed for those who left their costume hunting until the last minute, the Theatre By The Bay is having a sale on costumes, furniture and vintage centrepieces.

The event takes place Saturday October 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday October 30 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 19 Innisfil Street and will include not only rare costume finds, but affordable prices and some prizes to give away.

Iain Moggach is the Executive Director at Theatre By The Bay and admits they have wanted to host this event for a while.

“We really have wanted to do this before now and finally have the means to do so,” said Moggach. “It’s our off-season so we’re looking to get rid of some things and raise a little money for our future. People will love what they see as we have old dresses and Shakespearean items, antique clocks and even some military jackets. Every purchase puts you in a raffle and there will be prizes throughout the day such as make-up and gift boxes.”

On Halloween itself, the Ferris Lane Community Church and Daycare will be hosting their annual Trunk and Treat event. From 6 p.m. to  8 p.m. on Monday Oct. 31 the church parking lot is full of cars whose trunks have been decorated in a certain theme.

It’s not only fun for the kids to receive treats in such a unique way, but also for the organizers who hand out an award to the best dressed vehicle. Last year’s winner was a couple who dressed as a minion and Despicable Me’s Gru.

The event is strictly peanut-free and there is also hot chocolate on hand should the warmth be needed. The Ferris Lane Community Church is located at 49 Ferris Lane. Whatever you decide to do for Oct. 31, make sure to have fun and be safe.
