Multi-vehicle morning crash sends one to hospital; charges laid

One of the drivers involved in four-vehicle crash has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act

An early morning collision at a busy intersection in north-end Barrie today led to one person being sent to hospital and another being charged.

Barrie police responded to the four-vehicle crash at 8:38 a.m., Wednesday, at the corner of Bayfield and Livingstone streets.

Three vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection, with a fourth driver able to drive their vehicle to the Georgian Mall parking lot with minimal damage.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that while the investigation is ongoing at the scene, charges have been laid.

"There has been a Highway Traffic Act charge laid against the male driver of the white pick-up truck," said Leon. "He has been charged with failure to stop at a red light and early reports are that the passenger of another vehicle was taken to local hospital with non-life-threatenting injuries."

The intersection is now cleared and opened to traffic.
