Multi vehicle crash closes northbound Hwy 400; 13 injured (Highway reopened)

11:50 p.m. update

OPP report that Highway 400 northbound has been reopened.

7:45 p.m. update

OPP report that one northbound lane is open to traffic at Lloydtown-Aurora Road in King Township.

Emergency crews remain at the scene.

Motorists should expect heavy delays in the area and are reminded to adjust their driving for the winter conditions.

“The roads are absolutely icy and people aren’t slowing down,” said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.

"If you could avoid travel, today would be the day to do so.”

OPP are responding to over 100 calls received in a 45-minute period this evening throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

Original 6:55 p.m. information

At least 13 people have been injured in a multi-vehicle crash on northbound Highway 400.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the crash happened just before 6 p.m., in the area of Highway 400 northbound and Lloydtown-Aurora Road in King Township.

According to police, approximately 20 vehicles including two transport trucks are involved in the collision.

All northbound lanes are closed at this time.

A second collision on Highway 400, this one at Innisfil Beach Road, has been reported.

One person was transported to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre by ambulance with unknown injuries.
