CFB BORDEN — Canadian Forces Housing Agency (CFHA) is proud to announce additional houses for the Borden community. The base currently has 675 residential housing units (RHUs) occupied by military members and their families. This includes 12 new RHUs.

Two new apartment buildings each feature six two-bedroom apartments. The 800-square-foot RHUs offer a modern open-concept layout. By the end of the fiscal year, occupants will also enjoy outside storage sheds that are planned to be built in the coming months.

As per Defence Energy and Environment Strategy (DEES), a special attention was given to the energy efficiency in developing this project. For example, each units is equipped with occupancy sensors and individual controls to reduce the energy consumption. The complexes also include tankless water heaters and maximum flow rate plumbing to lessen water consumption. These efforts were recognized with a 3 Green Globes certification.

This construction project represents the first new residential housing construction in decades at CFB Borden. Although RHUs are maintained or recapitalized, this was a welcomed addition to the Base. The two apartment complexes will be accepting their first CAF occupants by the end of the summer.

“This project has been in the works for many years, and we are extremely thankful to see it become a reality and look forward to being able to allocate these new units,” commented Robert Craig, Manager of Borden’s CFHA Housing Services Centre. “This is thanks to CFHA Head Office, Defence Construction Canada, RP Ops Det Borden and the builder Renokrew.”
