More charges laid in Orillia homicide probe; additional suspect sought

On Monday July 30, 2018, officers from the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Orillia Fire Department and the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services (CSPS) responded to a report of a male who had been located in medical distress in the parking lot of Tim Hortons on Westmount Drive North and Woodside Drive, in the City of Orillia. As a result, a 25-year-old Orillia man died of his injuries. 

The initial investigation led police to arrest a 20-year-old Orillia man with Accessory After the Fact to Murder and a young person who cannot be named with Second Degree Murder.

As a result of the on-going investigation, police have arrested and charged 44-year-old Donnie Johnson and 33-year-old Miles Mathias, both from Orillia, with Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence contrary to Section 465(1)(c) of the Criminal Code and two counts each of Breach of Probation contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code.

A First Instance Warrant has been issued for Zachary Jones-Sheppard of Orillia in relation to this incident. The suspect is wanted for Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence contrary to Section 465(1)(c) of the Criminal and Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to Section 129 of the Criminal Code.

Police do not believe the male to be a danger to the public; however, police urge the public to not approach the male if he is located or his whereabouts are known. 

This incident remains under investigation by the Orillia Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Matt Watson of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. If anyone has any information regarding this incident or knows the whereabouts of the wanted person they are encouraged to contact the Orillia OPP at 705-326-3536 or 1-888-310-1122.
