Men think about it and women complain about it

But Barrie gym owner Cathy Housser says everyone faces the same battle with this resolution

Cathy Housser sees it every January.

The owner of Fitness Infuzion for Women has an influx of clients at the start of every new year and then it dies off by March.

"We want to try and overcome that and to do that you should be changing up your program or your activity every month to six weeks to keep it fresh.  Because as soon as you keep doing something and you're not getting results anymore, you're not going to want to do it anymore."

Housser, who is also a personal trainer, says a fitness regime should start with a list and deciding what you want to do first.

"Making a goal whether you're thinking it, saying it, making a goal is the first step - either writing it down or telling somebody. Once the thought process is there, then deciding where you're gonna go and how you're going to have that happen. If you don't know what you're doing, call somebody and ask for help. There's always professionals out there to help you."

Everyone is different and Housser says the most important thing is finding somethng you like.

"When you like something you're gonna do it. If we just make you do something and you're not liking it, of course you're not going to stick with it," said Housser. "Some people like classes, some people like weights, some people like none of that but know that it's healthy for them so we'll try and make it fun for them."

Of course the biggest battle for everyone is sticking with your program and keeping that resolution to get fit.

Remembering what your goal was in the first place is a start and once you reach that goal you need to maintain it.

Housser say you have to find different ways and asking someone for help is the trick.

One of the biggest hurdles is overcoming the intimidation factor of going to a gym or starting something new.

Housser says men battle the same issues as women when it comes to losing weight and getting fit.

Men just might not say it as much.

"We complain about it more," said Housser. "Men don't talk about it as much. They're still thinking it."
