The Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s basketball teams played their first games of the 2018-19 OCAA regular season on Friday night when they travelled to Toronto to take on the Seneca Sting.

It was a tough night for Georgian’s men’s team against the defending national champions.

The Grizzlies were unable to slow down the Sting’s attack as Seneca was able to pull away with 106-56 win.

Anthony Meggo (Whitby) led the Grizzlies in scoring with 12 points while teammate Tyler Vanessen (Whitby) had an 11 point effort.

After a close first quarter in the women’s game, the Sting were able to pour on the scoring on route to a 77-38 victory.

Kelsey Dunkeld (Barrie) and Mckenzie Howlett (Barrie) each had a matching team-high nine points in the loss.

The Grizzlies men’s and women’s teams will play their 2018-19 home openers on Wednesday, Oct. 24 when they host the Durham Lords. The double-header starts with the women’s game at 6 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m.

The first 500 people in attendance will receive a free “GC State” wristband with tickets available at the door for $5.
