Mayor Jeff Lehman was joined by a crowd of history enthusiasts at City Hall Monday morning to raise the Barrie Historical Archive flag.

The flag-raising kicks off a big week for the city with the launch Wednesday of Barrie's first digital archive.

The Barrie Historical Archive web site will be started with a sold-out event featuring former Barrie mayors.

There are still seats available for an after-launch reception at 8:30 p.m. in the City Hall rotunda which is open to the public.

"It's nice to have week to recognize the event that's coming and the heritage of our community," said Mayor Lehman, who called the website a "crowd-sourced museum."

The idea began as a Facebook group of several hundred people and grew into about seven thousand.

The online museum will include almost 6,000 pieces of Barrie's history including family photos that have never been publicly shared before.
