There is a whole lot of digging going on along Mapleview Drive East.
City construction engineer Jeff Parent says the contractor is currently working on the installation of the very deep 1,050-millimetre diameter sanitary trunk sewer, as well as 300-millimetre diameter PVC local water main pipe, a CPP transmission water main and concrete box culverts for Lovers Creek.
"This underground servicing will be done with at least one lane of traffic on Mapleview Drive," Parent concluded.
"We have had good progress to date on this project, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017."
The project, which began in August, will improve road service along Mapleview Drive East from Huronia Road to Country Lane, for current and anticipated increases in traffic volumes as development continues in the area.
The contract has an overall project budget of $10.1 million.
Mapleview Drive East is being widened to accommodate current and future traffic capacity. The work is required to include the installation of trunk water main and trunk sanitary sewer to service abutting properties and meet future demands.
It also replaces the aging and undersized Lover’s Creek Concrete Box Culvert.
The project includes:
- storm sewers
- sanitary trunk sewer
- water mains
- replacement of Lover’s Creek crossing with concrete culverts
- realignment of Lover’s Creek
- reconstruction and widening of Mapleview Drive East to five lanes including: new road granulars, subdrains, concrete curb and gutter, and hot mix asphalt
- concrete sidewalk on the south boulevard
- multi-use trail on the north boulevard
- streetlights
- traffic signals
